The village of Pyrgos is one of the most beautiful villages in Santorini. The long history, the elegant mansions, the narrow alleys, the medieval aura, the castle-like structure of the village, the vineyards and the panoramic views to the island and the sea make Pyrgos such a must-visit spot on the island of Santorini.

WHITE & Co. Exclusive Island Villas are located just a few steps from the centre of this beautiful place.

The village of Pyrgos is one of the five castle cities of Santorini. The Kasteli (small castle) of Pyrgos is the most recent one, built at the end of the 15th century and the houses of the village form the wall of the castle.
The village of Pyrgos was the capital of the island during the 18th century and today it is the home of some of the most significant churches on the island.

Pyrgos village is among the attractions that you simply can’t miss when in Santorini.

Once in Pyrgos you have to take a long stroll at the Kasteli and reach its top to admire the panoramic view. On your way you will come across the churches of Theotokaki, Aghios Nikolaos and the one dedicated to the Annunciation of the Virgin Mary at the top of the Kasteli. Drive or walk as high as the Monastery of Prophet Ilias where the views to the island will amaze you!

In Pyrgos are found some of the most important wineries of the island. The Hatzidakis Winery right in the middle of the vineyards features two huge canavas (the place where Santorini’s wine makers store the wine) to enjoy a wine tasting. Moreover, Santowines, the biggest winery on the island features some amazing caldera views, where a few steps further we find the Venetsanos Winery.

A day in Pyrgos should include a relaxing walk around the village, a stop for a coffee or a light bite at the traditional cafes, then a wine tasting experience and sunset bliss at the monastery of Prophet Ilias and finish that memorable day with a dinner at the restaurants of the village; even better, let us organize an amazing private dinner at your WHITE & CO Exclusive Island Villas!
